On Trend in Lighting

Consider an update of your interior illumination with these home lighting trends.

Tired of the same old lighting around your home? Think it's past due for a change?

Well, there's no shortage of attractive, innovative options. By utilizing these lighting trends, you'll look at your residence in a whole new light:

Edison Bulbs

Around for much of the decade, whether incandescent or LED, Edison bulbs still deliver a cool retro look many homeowners seek. The bulbs, often reproductions of those created by the Edison Electric Light Co. a century ago, feature visible filaments and a soft yellow glow.

Repurposed Industrial Lighting

-pipes, metals, pulleys

One of the latest trends in lighting involves artistic use of old industrial metal - like piping in the below - to create unique light sources. Also called modern farmhouse, this parallels two other current trends in lighting - the use of metallic and gray finishes, and exposed bulbs.

Wall Sconces

-designers are putting them in EVERY home

While not among new lighting trends, many interior designers say they now install wall sconces at every residence. These include bright LED versions, or softer, more rustic sconces. Designers also say don't worry about matching sconces with the rest of your lighting. Universal matching is out.

Until recently, slim and small pendant lights were all the rage in kitchens, but among the new trends in lighting is the utilization of large pendant lighting. It's a bold look with utilitarian function, another overlapping trend throughout the home.

Chandeliers in Unfamiliar Places

-bedrooms, master bath, powder room, landings

Whether traditional style or something uniquely decorative - like the twig design above - chandeliers are no longer limited to the entryway, dining room and living room. They're now found above beds in master bedrooms and even in bathrooms above the tub.Corbett Lighting

Modern Vanity Lighting

-no more 2,3,4 bulbs above the mirror please!

Customary three- to four-bulb bathroom vanity lighting is out, replaced by methods such as the recessed lights, sconces, pendant lighting and small chandeliers. Space often dictates your options, so choose what works best for yours.

Modern Forms

Use of Geometric Shapes

-form, function, design

These days, you find more and more lighting with geometric features. With these, the imagination's the limit. Spherical, hexagonal and cylindrical light fixtures adorn entryways, living rooms, kitchens, bedrooms, and virtually every area of the home.
